Description

The Department of Thoracic Surgery at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (ARNP).  

This is a salaried, full-time position based exclusively at one site/hospital.   The individual would join a dynamic and busy general thoracic team composed of 5 full-time academic thoracic surgeons, a Fellow, a rotating PGY-2 general surgery resident as well as 6 Advanced Practice Professionals (PA-C / ARNP).  The surgeons and APPs are employed by the Cancer Center and have an academic affiliation with the University of South Florida.  The team is very cohesive, functional and with no turnover for over 15 years.  The team performs exclusively general thoracic surgery (no cardiac surgery, no transplants) with over 1300 major thoracic oncologic procedures per year - most being performed robotically.

The successful candidate would be responsible for 1st assisting in the operating room at least 2-3 days per week, seeing patients in consultation on the ward and Emergency Department, and participating in the outpatient clinic on a weekly basis.  On occasion, there will be a need to make AM/PM floor/ICU rounds on in-patients in order to cover vacations of other APPs on the team.  There is NO night / weekend call requirement.  There is no travel requirement.   There is NO opportunity to work remotely or work from home.  Work hours may vary slightly on a daily basis depending on the team's clinical needs.  It is not defined shift work.

The ideal candidate must be energetic, dedicated and demonstrate a passion for thoracic surgery.  At least 2 years of Operating Room experience is MUST and prior cardiothoracic experience is highly desirable.  The successful candidate must be highly cooperative, an excellent communicator, a skilled technician, and determined to learn and constantly improve.  Being reliable, organized and detail-oriented are an absolute requirement.  We are seeking someone who is honest, empathetic and humane as we deal exclusively with cancer patients of all ages. 

Credentials and qualifications include a Bachelor's degree, a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Advanced Registered Nurse Program, the ability to obtain a Florida license and active BLS.
