Breast Imaging Division Chief

The Breast Imaging Division at Massachusetts General Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is seeking applicants for a full-time Division Chief position within Breast Imaging at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. The division is fully equipped with state-of-the-art breast tomosynthesis, ultrasound, MRI and procedure rooms and performs more than 60,000 mammograms, 8,000 ultrasounds, 3,000 MRIs and 3,000 procedures annually. The division has an active multidisciplinary research program, leveraging strong relationships across MGH, MassGeneral Brigham, MIT, Harvard and industry. Collectively, we support a diversity of research topics in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The division runs a highly competitive breast imaging fellowship program and provides comprehensive training for medical students and residents. Candidates should have completed fellowship training in breast imaging and expect to participate in all clinical, research and educational activities of the division. Reporting directly to the Deputy Chair of Radiology and Radiologist-in-Chief, the Division
Chief of Breast Imaging is responsible for developing a strategic plan for physician staffing and technical needs of the division in terms of patient care, teaching and research activities. The successful candidate will join a diverse team of breast imaging faculty, trainees, technologists, nurses, and administrative staff in a stimulating and supportive environment, working closely with team members and stellar multidisciplinary colleagues.

Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School may be commensurate with qualifications. Requirements include:

  • Board-Certification
  • Fellowship training in breast imaging

The incumbent will ensure the division provides optimum quality of care and efficiency of service to patients and referring physicians. In conjunction with the Clinical Director and Operations Manager, the Division Chief participates in the development of the operating budget, helps ensure imaging equipment is state of the art, reviews operational data related to patient access and quality, and optimizes clinical workflows. The Division Chief oversees administrative responsibilities for the division related to the faculty schedule, resident/fellow teaching, and research activities. The incumbent will maintain a high level of clinical expertise in new and emerging breast imaging technology and ensure that procedures, policies, and guidelines within the division reflect the state of the art. They will also promote a culture of quality clinical care and patient safety, ensuring that all division members uphold the same. It is also vital that the prospective Division Chief nurtures the divisional research program and is actively engaged in faculty development.

The Division Chief also serves as Co-Director of the MGH Cancer Center Avon Foundation Comprehensive Breast Evaluation Center, a multidisciplinary center focused on world-class expert assessment of breast health and breast cancer detection.
