Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Hillcrest is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our team in Waco, Texas.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a collaborative surgical practice providing comprehensive care across the inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and operating room settings. The Physician Assistant will work closely with an experienced surgical team managing patients throughout the continuum of care, including pre-operative evaluations, first assisting in the operating room, post-operative management, inpatient rounding, emergency department consults, and outpatient clinic visits.

The ideal candidate is a motivated, team-oriented Physician Assistant with a passion for delivering exceptional patient-centered surgical care. Candidates with two years of surgical experience are preferred.

Position Highlights

• Join an established Surgical Specialty practice

• Mix of outpatient clinic, inpatient care, operating room, and emergency department consults

• First assist in the operating room

• Approximately 15 patients per day

• Ten call days per month

• Collaborative physician and Advanced Practice Provider team

• Opportunity to care for patients throughout the surgical continuum

• Two years of surgical experience preferred

Schedule

• Monday through Friday

• Outpatient clinic, inpatient rounding, and operating room responsibilities

• Approximately 10 call days per month

• Emergency department consult coverage

• Average patient volume of 15 patients per day

Role Responsibilities

The Physician Assistant - Surgical Specialty provides direct patient care within the scope of practice established by the supervising physician. This role supports surgical patients across the perioperative continuum, including evaluation, treatment planning, operative assistance, and post-operative management.

Responsibilities include:

• Perform comprehensive and focused patient assessments, including histories and physical examinations.

• Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans.

• Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic studies.

• Prescribe medications and recommend treatments within scope of practice.

• Perform procedures appropriate to training and delegated privileges.

• First assist during surgical procedures.

• Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient management.

• Round on hospitalized patients and provide emergency department consultations as needed.

• Counsel patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, recovery, and health promotion.

• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation.

• Initiate specialty consultations and referrals when appropriate.

• Participate in all phases of perioperative patient care across outpatient, inpatient, and operating room settings.

• Provide additional patient care coverage as departmental needs require.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program

Experience

• One or more years of Physician Assistant experience required

• Two years of surgical experience preferred

Licensure & Certifications

• Current Physician Assistant license to practice in the State of Texas

• Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer
